Development: Playing it Forward...Again!

In August 2017, we launched our annual giving drive. Our goal for this fiscal year? To raise $50,000. So far, we’re at $58,000. Call us over-achievers! But before the celebrations begin and the dollars stop coming in, we should remind one and all: it takes $100,000 just to cover the cost of our education and outreach programs for one year. So we are not stopping now…

The annual giving drive, better known as our Play It Forward campaign, is just one critical element of the Museum’s fundraising activities—albeit a very important one, as those numbers above clearly indicate. Our yearly gala, various benefit concerts, grants, and the membership program (more about that on the next page) round out our fundraising initiatives and mean our development office stays very busy all year round.

But just as important to us as raising funds each year is our commitment to you—our donors, members, volunteers, supporters, and visitors—that we report on these fundraising activities in a clear and open manner.

So here is an important point you should know: unique for a nonprofit, the staff salaries at the Museum of Making Music are entirely subsidized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. (NAMM also pays the electric bill and other overhead expenses!) Which means that when you donate to the Museum’s annual giving campaign or other fundraising projects, your dollars go directly towards supporting our education programs and exhibitions.

We have lots more facts and figures, but you get the idea. We know you do, because YOU are the ones donating those dollars to the annual giving campaign! And YOU are the ones that help make this Museum such an important and integral part of the region’s cultural life!
